Our Major Practice Areas
The Firm’s varied and steadily increasing workload includes the following main areas:
a) Conveyancing
We act for clients who approach us seeking to deal with property in various ways including as buyers, sellers, landlords, tenants, lenders, borrowers, licensors, licensees, concessionaires, among others. We conduct due diligence, negotiate, prepare or review all agreements and instruments, obtain all regulatory consents and approvals and procure registration and title documents in land registries across Kenya for our clients.
We also enforce our clients’ rights when property transactions do not go according to plan and disputes arise. Enforcement may entail arbitration, litigation in courts and tribunals for specific performance, eviction, recovery of rent arrears, foreclosure, among other reliefs.
(b) Commercial and Corporate
The range of our services include: advising clients on the various possibilities for establishing companies, partnerships and trusts; drafting business contracts, reviewing clients’ employment contracts and standard forms to identity and minimize commercial risk, commercial arbitration and litigation. We perceive ourselves as external partners of our clients’ business and are continually accessible to provide real-time advice, prompt transactional support and dispute resolution solutions
Some of our substantive practice areas include aircraft leasing, finance and acquisition, company formation, reconstructions, mergers and acquisitions and winding-up; advising clients on public procurement and disposal, including reviews and appeals.
(c) Civil Litigation
The firm undertakes litigation in, among others, disputes between employers and employees, debt recovery, probate and administration, disputes relating to land and environment.
(d) Environment and Natural Resources
Some of our services in this area include: influencing policy and legislation; working with legislators, environmental regulatory agencies and land use planners; providing advisory and transactional support for property transactions, establishment of conservancies, sanctuaries and game reserves; designing regulatory measures for access and benefit sharing and consumptive utilization of wildlife resources; and advising clients on compliance with the myriad of environmental laws.
(e) Entertainment
We advise different industry participants including performing artists, songwriters and record companies in negotiating and drafting agreements, including artist sponsorship and endorsement agreements with performing artists, recording contracts and agreements between artists and managers, agents and other representatives.

Tom’s Profile
Overview
Tom is a versatile Advocate with over fifteen years’ broad-ranging post-qualification experience acquired in public service, the United Nations and law firms. Before establishing Ochieng’ Ogola & Company Advocates in 2016, Tom led the Legal Services Department at the Kenya Wildlife Service – Kenya’s wildlife conservation and law enforcement state agency.
Competencies
Tom is best known for his expertise in biodiversity law, governance and regulation, having been heavily involved in all its diverse aspects for close to a decade on the national, regional, continental and international planes. In recognition of this expertise, he was appointed on merit in 2016 as the Law Society of Kenya’s representative on the Tourism Appeals Tribunal after an open, competitive process.
Corporate clients perceive Tom as a valuable business partner and a safe, reliable pair of hands, especially for complex and sensitive work. They have greatly benefitted from his experience with high-level in-house corporate work, which translates to proven ability to meet the entire gamut of corporate clients’ legal needs. These needs typically range from managing employee relations, dispute avoidance and resolution, compliance, risk and transactional support. To augment his hands-on experience, Tom has undergone comprehensive corporate governance training and holds a Certificate in Corporate Governance from the Center for Corporate Governance, Kenya. He makes a point of always delivering concise, well-explained and easily implementable advice to all his corporate and individual clients
Tom also cherishes the importance of well-developed soft skills for nurturing and developing lasting relationships with clients from diverse backgrounds. He has trained as a Counselor and olds a Certificate in Counseling from the Amani Counseling Centre and Training Institute, Nairobi. Tom is comfortable working with teams or individuals at any level of an organization’s hierarchy.
Other Interests
In his leisure time, Tom plays football and is a fitness enthusiast. He also has a deep, abiding love for music and is an avid reader. In addition to law books, his library spans books on leadership and influence, governance, business management, history, philosophy, music, sports, among other publications.
